Hyundai Grand i10 (BA) is not launched in India yet. Information on this page is tentative.
Hyundai
has unveiled the next generation hatchback for India, christened as the
Grand i10. The new model will be built in India and will also be
exported to the European markets, where it is expected to debut at the
2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. Hyundai has released the first images of the
car along with a confirmation that this model will be powered by a new
diesel engine.
The
all-new Grand i10 follows Hyundai’s fluidic design philosophy. The
front of the car is dominated by a standard hexagonal grille and well
sculpted headlamps that resemble the design of the i20. The fog lamps
are big with bold black surrounds adding more aggression to the fascia.
The Grand resembles the current i10 from the side, but it is noticeably
wider, longer and taller than the current model. This car has side
moldings – but these are not standard puny strips, but shapely wide
black belts that add character to the car along with roof rails. The
rear of the car looks like a shrunk version of the i20 and the overall
design makes it evident that the car will slot in between the i10 and
the i20.
Hyundai
is known for offering segment-first features and the Grand i10 will be
no different. The top-end variants will get climate control, rear
parking sensors and even sun roof. The most interesting addition however
is the rear AC vents, which is not a standard feature even on the i20.
The overall increase in dimensions means that the new Grand i10 will be
more spacious that the current model. It will comfortably seat three
people on the rear-bench and still have space in the boot for week’s
shopping.
The
next generation i10 will be powered by 1.2-litre four-cylinder kappa
petrol engine developing 80bhp and 112Nm. Hyundai will surely update the
engine a bit for better efficiency and lesser emissions. But the bigger
news is the diesel engine. Hyundai is introducing a new 1.1-litre
three-cylinder engine that will produce close to 75bhp. The same engine
with even lower emission figures will power the new i10 for Europe. We
are also waiting for the efficiency numbers of the new car, but we won’t
be surprised if the official ARAI numbers are well above 20kpl. The
exact specs of the diesel engine will be disclosed at the time of launch
in September. The Grand i10 will be the third car in the segment after
the Chevrolet Beat and the Ford Figoto a have diesel engine option.
We
now have confirmation that this car will be positioned between the i10
and the i20 in India – this is also the reason it will be called the
Grand i10.The next generation Grand i10 will be priced starting close to
Rs 4.6 lakh, while the top-end variant diesel variant close to Rs 7
lakh. It will be interesting to see if the new car cannibalizes the
existing Hyundai hatchbacks. Of the possible remedies is that Hyundai
will discontinue the Santro and cut prices of the current i10 to make
place for this new model. However all the pricing details are just
speculations, so stay tuned to CarWale for more details of the Grand i10
from the launch event in September.
